How to create a team in Microsoft Teams?

  • A team is a group of people, maybe your department or the whole organization. 
  • Under Teams, we find channels that are attached to Teams. In channels, you can have specific conversations with your teammates about a particular project or topic. 

Start creating a team

1. Go to Teams tab.

2. Select Join or create a team.

3. Select Create team button to start creating a new team.

4. Create a team” window will be displayed. Here you have multiple choices of groups. Choose the one that fits your needs. 

  • If you want to start with a basic team choose From scratch.

5. Choose the team’s type between private and public.

  • Private team– choose who will join your group.
  • Public team– let anyone in the organization find and join your group.

6. Give your Team a name and add a short description as you like -> select Create.

7.  Add members to your team -> when you are done click Add button and then Close.

  • You can also add people outside your organization. Just use their email addresses and invite them as guests.

8.  Press the info button (top-right side) to visualize all members.

Create a channel

  • Channels are very important. This is the place where work is actually done.
  • Channels are attached to Teams.
  • Here you can share text, audio, and video files and have voice or video calls with your teammates.

1. Select Create more channels.

2. Give your channel a name and add a short description -> select Create.

3.  Add members to your channel -> when you are done click Add button.

 

4.  Teams and attached channels will be displayed on the left side.
